Read Across the Globe

On October 19, 2016, join us for Read Across the Globe, an initiative that brings the power of volunteers together to impact literacy in your community. Working with thousands of volunteers, educators, and partners in every time zone, together we'll read to children all over the globe in an attempt to break a world record for the most children read to in a 24-hour period.

Make an Impact
Be a point of light and experience the power of volunteering by joining Read Across the Globe. Together we can demonstrate the importance of literacy for every child across the globe.

Open a Book
Exposure to language—talking, singing, or reading—from infant to 3 years old is a strong predictor of a child’s ability to read fluently by 3rd grade. Children who are not reading proficiently by 3rd grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school.

Spread the Word
Spread the word about the importance of literacy and make it possible for all children to experience the magic of books and reading.

Read Across the Globe, an initiative of Points of Light, is sponsored by Deloitte, with the support of The Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation and Volunteer Houston--along with other global nonprofits, businesses, and Points of Light and HandsOn Network Affiliates across the US and in 30 countries.
